  • Red-leaf lettuce leaves for serving
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup toasted walnuts
Instructions

In a salad bowl, combine the apples, walnuts, celery, and raisins.In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and lemon juice.Toss the dressing with the apple-nut mixture.

Serve the salad over lettuce leaves.This recipe yields 4 servings.Serving size: about 3/4 cup.Comments: We call this "new" Waldorf salad because we have lowered the fat content of this famous side salad. We still use all the traditional ingredients, but we use fat-free mayonnaise and fewer nuts. Make a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread and eat this as the sensational side!
