- 1 large yellow onion (cut in half and sliced)

- 1 to 2 teaspoons garlic powder (or more if you love garlic)
- 1 can (14 3/4 ounce) whole kernel corn
- 2 cans (14 3/4 ounce) cream-style corn (14 3/4 ounce each can)
- 6 large (3 pounds) potatoes (peeled, boiled and mashed with milk and butter)
- 3 tablespoons butter
