Ingredients
- For the meatballs:
- 1 lb. Ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 egg
- olive oil
- For the cabbage:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil plus more to brown meatballs
- 1 sweet onion, sliced
- 1 pinch kosher salt
- 1 small head cabbage, shredded
- 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
- 3 cups crushed tomatoes (I used 1 box of Pomi)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
- Salt and fresh ground black pepper
- Vinegar and more brown sugar as needed
